    New district and session court inaugurated in West Jaiñtia Hills

    A new building of the District and Session Court Complex at Khliehtyrshi in West Jaintia Hills was today inaugurated by Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee.

    The court complex was constructed at Rs 35.89 crore at a total area of 11.162 acres housing seven courtrooms

    Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Justice emphasized on the importance of quick and fair trials, ensuring the rule of law, and upholding the principles of justice. He spoke passionately about the court’s role in safeguarding the rights and liberties of the citizens.

    He expressed his gratitude towards the state government, the district administration, the judiciary and the legal fraternity of the district for their collective efforts and unwavering support in establishing the new courthouse, which he said would contribute significantly towards speedy delivery of justice thereby reducing backlog of cases.

    District & Session Judge N.A Khan in his welcome address mentioned that the total pendency of cases in the district is 978, out of which 718 are criminal cases and 260 civil cases.

    Deputy Chief Minister. Sniawbhalang Dhar, Justice Hamarsan S Thangkhiew, Justice Wanlura Diengdoh, Justice B. Bhattacharjee and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
